FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Please note that, unless otherwise noted, the information on this page is contributed by students.  While we make every attempt to ensure the accuracy and usefulness of the information provided, you should carefully pay attention to all official correspondences from the university for any changes or differences.

1.  What courses will we be taking during the first year?

    1st Semester:

  • Gross Anatomy

  • Histology (sometimes referred to as Microstructures)

  • Embryology (sometimes referred to as Development)

  • Introduction to Clinical Medicine

  • Neurosciences (starts in October)

    2nd Semester:

  • Biochemistry

  • Neurosciences (ends in March)

2.  What should be done over the summer to prepare for the start of classes?

  • RSVP for the White Coat Ceremony by June 4th

  • Have financial aid in order

  • Obtain vaccinations (can be done during Orientation)

  • Pre-order textbooks (optional - can be purchased during Orientation)

  • RELAX and enjoy your summer!!

3.  When will we wear our white coats after the White Coat Ceremony?

You will be required to wear your white coat and professional clothes when working with standardized patients and when doing preceptorships.  In addition, you will probably be asked to wear your nametag throughout orientation and in the gross anatomy lab.  Outside of those times, casual clothing may be worn.

4.  Where can we park?

Students will have an opportunity to purchase a Green Lot parking pass during Orientation week and can park in the Green Lots during Orientation without worry until those passes sold.  While the parking situation is always in flux due to construction, below you can see the two most popular lots for students to park in.  Don't be fooled by all the buildings in Google's dated imagery, the Haymarket Lot is indeed a parking lot.  Likewise, the "Bat Cave" extends under Interstate 65, but often fills up quickly.  Shuttles run throughout the day to take students to and from these lots.  In the evening and on weekends, one can park in front of the medical and dental schools (carefully avoiding the spots designated for the shuttle-they do give tickets) and in the parking garage located at the corner of Chestnut and Preston (not shown-one block south of Muhammad Ali).  This parking garage also contains a gym which medical students have free access to and Parking and Transportation offices.
